This course, as the first of a two part comprehensive, in-depth coverage of Supply Chain Management, provides, first, a basic understanding of the operations function in organizations and the associated strategic, tactical and operational aspects of this functional area. Secondly, the nature and role of supply chains within the context of the major organizational functions, especially in the light of recent developments in manufacturing, transportation, information, communication and other relevant technologies, along with some supply chain policy formulation and decision making issues, receive thorough treatment. Topical coverage includes detailed discussions and problem solving in the areas of sales and operations planning, inventory management, MRP/DRP, operations scheduling, etc.
